The Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) announced the winners of its annualglobal media excellence awards at a gala event in London last night. These awards are fairly unique since an independent panel of judges consisting of respected professionals from the broadcasting and wider industries select the winners among a record number of entries submitted from all over the world.

Pianist and composer Alain Lefèvre, popular radio host on Espace Musique, was named International personality of the year - radio. “His genuine passion for the things he talks about comes across so clearly,” explained the jury.

Established in 1993, the AIB is the international industry association. With a reach of over 25,000 communicators and media professionals, AIB is a unique centre of information about international broadcasting, covering TV, radio, online and mobile


RADIO-Canada and the MUSICIAN

Alain Lefèvre was 9 years old when he first appeared on television on Radio-Canada, as a guest of the Femmes d’aujourd’hui show, hosted by Aline Desjardins. He had just won the First Prize of the Heintzman Piano Competition. Throughout the years, he has taken part in numerous radio and television shows. On September 4, 2007, he was seen and heard live on both the radio and TV segments of the multimedia event Symphonicité, performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, under Kent Nagano’s direction, on the Place des Arts Esplanade. On February 2 and 3, 2008, he was France Beaudoin’s special guest on the radio show Studio 12, with the Menasen Quartet, Jorane, Suzie LeBlanc, Michel Donato and Paul Brochu.

Alain Lefèvre’s world is limitless, alike his presence on the international scene, be it on stage, in recordings, or, since the fall of 2005, as a host of a two-hour show on Radio-Canada’s Espace Musique. His two-hour show on classical music is broadcast every Sunday in Canada, coast to coast, and can also be heard anywhere in the world via the Internet.

With the passion that has become his trademark, he offers the audience a selection of rare or unedited recordings, some by deceased great artists, as well as exceptional performances and discoveries. Alain Lefèvre also shares anecdotes and confidences on the classical musical milieu and its principal characters.
