Alain Lefèvre Honored at the National Assembly

Montréal, May 27th, 2010 – Yesterday at the National Assembly a motion was proposed to pay tribute to the excellent work of Alain Lefèvre, a relentless champion of late Canadian composer André Mathieu. This motion set out to honor and congratulate “pianist Alain Lefèvre for his interpretation of André Mathieu’s Concerto during the Shanghai World Exposition, as well as emphasize his contribution to the discovery and recognition of the talent, let alone the genius, of the late André Mathieu, a composer, virtuoso and pianist from Québec”.

Bourget deputy Maka Kotto, who proposed the motion, reminded the audience that in the beginning of May, Alain Lefèvre opened the Canadian pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition, with the Asian premiere of André Mathieu’s 4th Piano Concerto; the day after the concert was the world premiere of the movie The Child Prodigy, about the life of André Mathieu, a film written and directed by Luc Dionne and produced by Denise Robert (Cinémaginaire), a project in which Alain Lefèvre acted as music director, composer and pianist.

Christine Saint-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, said : “I want to pay tribute to Alain Lefèvre’s dedication and hard work in the rehabilitation of André Mathieu, one of the most important artists of our musical heritage. Worldwide acclaimed pianist, Mr.Lefèvre has been excelling on all levels from the very beginning of his career, as can be assessed by the numerous awards he was awarded both in Québec and abroad. Alain Lefèvre’s keen personality and infectious enthusiasm, combined with his talent as a pianist and composer, make him a key ambassador for Québec’s classical music. It’s not often that we come across performances that show, with such consistency, sincerity and unselfishness, a real commitment to our culture.”
